This
new Edge 540 reflects the trend towards
large planes which has been possible because
of newer more powerful 50cc class engines
that are now available. The expanded wing
area makes it possible to carry a larger
engine and the lighter weight really pushes
the performance with a TOC-53 into the ballistic
range.
The
plane is designed for maximum flexibility.
The new wider cowl and fuselage will accept
a wide variety of engines, even small twins.
There are many configuration options which
allow you to easily balance the plane with
light or not-so-light engines.
A
longer integrated canister tunnel allows
installation of a quiet muffler/header system
which canalso boost power. The tunnel cover
also provides a roomy area to mount gas
and smoke tanks and a smoke system.
In
addition to expanded wing area the plane
sports large more powerful ailerons, elevators
and rudder, meant for 3D. The light wings
make roll performance crisp, rolls and snaps
start and stop instantly. The large surfaces
give excellent control authority even at
very low speeds, the prop blast alone is
often sufficient to maintain control even
at zero air speed.
Like
most Edge designs, this plane is gentle
to fly and land. It has very stable flight
characteristics, and it lands as gracefully
as it flies. But when you crank the double-beveled
control throws up it becomes a 3D hot-rod!
As
with our other new Fast-Build Wild Hare
ARFs, this plane is 95% complete when you
get it. The new lighter wings are built-up
and pre-hinged as are the elevators. The
rudder is half hinged for shipping. All
the wood is laser cut. It is designed to
be light, but new techniques of construction
keep this plane strong as well, strong enough
for the everyday pilot. Tab/slot construction,
aluminum angle gear reinforcement, all this
says the plane is not just for the pros.
It's covered in Ultracoat/Oracover and is
easily repaired. The pre-mounted cowl mounts
with an internal ring so there are no visible
fasteners, this makes mounting the engine
a snap.
Other
Fast-Build features include per-marked engine
mounting location with laser cut templates
for popular engines, and the canopy is pre-attached
to the frame. All mounting screws and blind
nuts are pre-installed, there's really not
much to do except install the radio and
control systems, the fuel system, engine,
and landing gear.
This
is the perfect plane for the beginner gasoline
engine user or for the experienced pilot
who just doesn't have time to build a plane.
The
new Edge 540T is supplied with landing gear,
a nice tailwheel assembly and all fasteners.
No other hardware is supplied with the kit
since many people have their own ideas about
hardware. Wild Hare does have available
a hardware accessory pack that includes
everything you will need to assemble the
plane except spinner, engine, and electronics.
Specifications:
Built-up wings use one aileron servo per
wing. Aluminum main gear and single wire
type tailwheel assembly. Ring mounted fiberglass
cowl and fiberglass wheel pants are painted
in urethane enamel. Removable horizontal
stab and wings on aluminum tube spars. Cowl
is pre-mounted, firewall is pre-installed
and marked and engine thrust angle is built
in. Pre-drilled hardpoints in ailerons,
elevators, and rudder for control horns.
Elevators and ailerons are pre-hinged, rudder
hinges are glued into the rudder but not
fuselage. Covered with Ultracoat/Oracover.
Available in color scheme shown. Wood parts
are laser cut for accurate assembly. Rudder
hinge holes pre-drilled. Tank mount and
radio tray pre-installed. Canister tunnel
is built-in. Mounts provided for radio and
ignition switches. Full length hatch provides
generous open work room. Mounts to control
rudder via either push-pull (servos in tail)
or pull-pull (servo under hatch) to make
balancing easier. This plane is intended
for 50cc engines such as the TMM TOC-53
or DL-50.
